Cassie takes a wild ride though Seattle, getting severely spooked & checking out some very cool places that we "highly recommend." Then we talk about a historic bar that totally stole our hearts! We just couldn't take it when we found out it was not able to reopen after the Covid-19 quarantine... Re-bar in Seattle, Washington was “…a home base for freaks, geeks, drag queens, bikers, punks, B-listers, wallflowers, wastoids, goths, grungers, drama nerds, and everybody else…” The building is also home to a few, rather unique, ghosties.

[00:00:00] Listener discretion is advised. Hello and welcome to Scary Time, the podcast that helps

[00:00:06] you find new, emerging and undiscovered scary and paranormal podcasts. I'm Greg, the host

[00:00:12] and curator of Scary Time. Today's episode is from PNW, Haunts and Homicides.

[00:00:19] Caitlin and Cassie chat true crime, paranormal and all things spooky in the Pacific Northwest.

[00:00:25] If you like today's episode, make sure to check out the episode description for links

[00:00:29] to subscribe. Alright let's get this show started.

[00:00:32] Begin!

[00:00:55] Hi Caitlin. Hi Cassie. Hi Creepy people. Hello! It's World UFO Day y'all. Oh shit

[00:01:20] well that makes a lot more sense. Well because we're setting up to record over Zoom

[00:01:28] which we almost never do anymore and I was just, both of us actually me more so than you

[00:01:35] but we were having some issues. It was the aliens. It was the aliens totally. But yeah talking

[00:01:42] about aliens today unfortunately. Oh I know I like tricked you out didn't I you thought

[00:01:48] we were gonna talk about aliens. Yeah not today. I was like it's been a while since we covered

[00:01:54] aliens. Yes there's probably about a year. Yeah that's crazy. I think you're right.

[00:02:02] I should have planned to maybe do like another one but whatever. We you know what though

[00:02:13] we can plan to do another one soon. There's some other stuff I won't even say here. I'll share

[00:02:21] with you later because I found some things that I was like I don't know. I don't know might be a little

[00:02:27] bit of a rabbit hole but I like rabbit holes. Yeah well oh did I keep forgetting to say this is

[00:02:37] P&W Hansen homicides. You know I feel like people know yeah but we should probably still say it

[00:02:47] but you know like forgive us if we forget occasionally. Yeah it might happen. You can tell us

[00:02:54] especially today. Write us and let us know if we forget. Especially. Yeah this week we'd really

[00:03:02] like get if you didn't write it in Dallas that's specifically right in and tell us anything but that

[00:03:09] that. Yeah it's been a bit of a whirlwind at least for me so what are we finally back in the

[00:03:18] apart. Yeah we're not in a hotel this time yeah I'm recording from a different desk than usual because

[00:03:26] why go back to normal. Overrated. It's close enough. You're very close enough. I have a bathroom.

[00:03:34] You're so pretty. Yeah it's like throwing me off how pink you are. This is purple. Google said

[00:03:40] this was purple. Google lied. Yeah I mean I can tell Google to make it a different color.

[00:03:46] Is there a more UFO appropriate color? Like an alien. Okay let's see we'll see if Google

[00:03:55] can hear me from around the corner. Hey Google turn the family room lights green.

[00:04:02] She's an alien. Yeah okay well you know all right so I always say that so

[00:04:16] so I went on two Seattle trips recently and I had some experiences on them that I wanted to tell

[00:04:27] you guys about they're pretty cool. Why? Yeah wait do I know about these? You might and I had this

[00:04:35] issue when I was writing it and I was like did I already talk about some of these on the podcast

[00:04:41] or did I just like tell Caitlin? I don't I don't think so if you told me as you know I'm basically

[00:04:49] a goldfish and I might remember only part of it. So we'll see yeah I'm so excited. If you

[00:04:56] creepy people have heard any of this before I apologize but it's still pretty fun.

[00:05:03] So the first thing that happened when we were at our hotel so we were in the elevator with a group

[00:05:10] of people and none of us could get the cards to work. So like because you had you have to use

[00:05:16] the card to get to your floor right and they weren't deactivated because we just used them

[00:05:21] to get into the building so they worked. That's so weird and I don't think we had the same experience

[00:05:28] recently. Yeah I don't they weren't the demagnetized ones though like if you put them by your phone

[00:05:33] like they would still work they weren't those type of keys anyway so we just couldn't get the

[00:05:38] keys to work in the elevator. We're like what's happening? So the elevator starts to go up

[00:05:44] because it doesn't you know it doesn't know where to go it's going to whoever's calling it right

[00:05:50] so we're going up we're still trying to get the cards to work and all of a sudden the elevator stops

[00:05:54] and it opens behind us because there's two sets of doors it opens behind us yeah

[00:06:00] yeah and I turn around the look and it's a dark room and no one was there

[00:06:08] yeah nothing you and I'm like some like what the fuck this is terrifying the doors like stay open

[00:06:15] because the keys aren't working nothing's happening. I realize it's like the supply room

[00:06:21] for the cleaners and stuff it's got like towels and stuff in there but no one was in there

[00:06:28] so like who called the elevator right? And then right after that someone got their key to work

[00:06:38] yeah okay I really want to I really want to know if somebody like is familiar with

[00:06:46] the inner workings of an elevator because we had this like very similar experiences where we

[00:06:51] would use the key for outside but then it wouldn't work to get into our room and we went to the front

[00:06:57] desk at the second hotel that we stayed at literally three or four times per key. Oh my god

[00:07:06] we got our keys changed out like almost every day what? That's crazy I don't know so either they have

[00:07:14] really crappy keys or you know mystery fuckery a foot someone later said that like one of the employees

[00:07:25] probably called the elevator but like didn't want to wait and then left to the room but I'm like what

[00:07:31] but why? Like I don't think it took that long for the elevator to get up there

[00:07:38] because we all got in right and then it worked and then it went it was like it was a couple

[00:07:42] seconds like it wasn't like they were waiting 10 minutes for an elevator so like who is yeah I don't know

[00:07:50] about yeah some people need to explain it in a rational way no matter what they just need that

[00:07:59] to make you feel better or they get too freaked out yeah yeah I mean I got it I get it I really do

[00:08:06] so until we were on our way home and oh my creepy experience there in the car so the GPS told us

[00:08:19] to take the next exit and we both saw it we both saw it say take the next exit we see the little

[00:08:26] blue line exiting and we're like okay that's kind of weird because like we're on the freeway

[00:08:31] head at home I don't think we exit but we just followed it anyway maybe like maybe there's traffic or

[00:08:37] something there wasn't any traffic but we followed the GPS where sheeple it's fine so

[00:08:46] we end up like under all of these bridges in what I call the underbelly of Seattle

[00:08:57] it's like this industrial area there's a bunch of like semi truck things and it just looked

[00:09:07] it was it was creepy under there like yeah I'm not supposed to know exactly are we supposed to even

[00:09:15] be driving down here like it doesn't look like roads really like so I don't know yeah but we were

[00:09:23] trying to get out and get back onto the freeway it was like we were being directed by the GPS still

[00:09:30] and it was having us turn the opposite way of like what you think to get back to the freeway oh no

[00:09:37] so kept doing that I don't like that and we're just driving around eventually we got out of there

[00:09:42] but it I felt like I was in like a back rooms type situation but like on the road like everything

[00:09:48] kept looking the same kept turning and getting nowhere yeah it was super creepy so if you ever want

[00:09:55] to see the Seattle underbelly just take the wrong exit take the wrong the wrong term that's so

[00:10:04] weird we had a similar experience driving back not from Seattle I don't think but another spot up

[00:10:12] in Washington and we ended up about 45 minutes in the wrong direction like it took us east

[00:10:21] what we were like okay and we thought same thing we're like okay this must be avoiding traffic but

[00:10:31] we never looked around and sunny we couldn't find any on the map uh huh the wrong turn was just

[00:10:38] totally inexplicable and I usually just chalked that up to like bad signal but yeah I don't know

[00:10:46] maybe we have like a little maybe there's like a little bermuda triangle of the P and W

[00:10:53] maybe up in you know what I mean uh uh the GPS always tell you to take the wrong turn

[00:11:03] well at least we got out yeah so I also went to the mo pop the museum of pop culture

[00:11:12] have you heard of it oh probably from me yeah it took me a second yeah I probably talked about it

[00:11:19] listen you're not the only one that's been there okay but I do highly highly recommend it was

[00:11:29] really really cool have you been um I don't think I have no you should go I highly recommend it

[00:11:37] yeah whenever I go up oh do you I do you really I wrote that in my notes so I keep saying that

[00:11:45] oh my gosh so I highly recommend it when we were there they were doing the Disney heroes and villains

[00:11:56] like costume display it was so cool they had the dresses I wrote

[00:12:04] so okay they have the dresses from Hocus Pocus

[00:12:08] shut up which I like fan rolled over it so hard but in my notes I wrote Hocus Pocus

[00:12:17] I mean that feels like a Freudian slip I apparently need to Hocus Pocus okay

[00:12:25] oh god I think we can make a spell jar for that Hocus Pocus I'm gonna put it on a shark I think

[00:12:32] that should yeah we're yeah can we have matching Hocus Pocus shirt yes TM yeah

[00:12:41] TM TM TM they also had different themed rooms there that are just there in the regular museum not

[00:12:49] part of the Disney one so they had a fantasy room and they had props from Harry Potter oh yeah you

[00:12:58] know that's where I lose my shit was so cool and in the horror one they had Michael Myers costume

[00:13:08] they had a Jason costume they had Morticia freaking Adams dress oh that's cool yeah that's

[00:13:17] really cool it was amazing I'll share them with you guys yeah I feel like you'd be in the horror

[00:13:23] room and I'd be in the Harry Potter room I want to really speak to our personalities yeah I just

[00:13:30] wanted to hang out there all day it was so cool but there was a lot of people there it was too

[00:13:36] people it's busy too people they also had props from walking dead which we just talked about

[00:13:44] in an episode really yeah I mean I know we talked about it yeah you're like really we did

[00:13:52] I mean really like oh they had the props they had like I didn't really go into detail on what

[00:13:58] they had in my notes but like they had all of that did you watch the walking dead you said

[00:14:03] you watch like some of it right do you remember all of all of the heads in the like fish tanks yeah

[00:14:11] they had that it was so cool did you know what I really want them to have because right around

[00:14:17] the time we get introduced to her is when I stopped watching the show because of the horrible thing

[00:14:25] that they did that it was like the shot heard around the world do they have Lucille the bat

[00:14:34] I don't know the wire ravaged bad you don't think they did okay I feel like I would have taken

[00:14:40] a photo of it if they did right yeah but there was honestly there was so much stuff and there

[00:14:46] was so many people and I get really like anxiety around a lot of people yeah so yeah I might have

[00:14:52] missed it I'm not sure but they don't have like every prop ever made but yeah yeah I mean probably

[00:15:00] some of them are still being used right I mean probably are they still making the walking dead

[00:15:07] I don't know because after they did the thing my interest took a no style same

[00:15:14] so I don't know what you do you know what you did anyway okay moving along

[00:15:28] I also obviously went to Pike Place because duh yes had to go I'd only ever been one time

[00:15:37] so I had to go back and it was awesome I love it there I want to live there I want to live

[00:15:46] being Pike Place well you were born in the wrong century for that right you can look really close

[00:15:54] though I could we almost didn't come back we're like are we moving I really like Seattle I'm not

[00:16:01] gonna lie really really there so yeah we might be moving okay well podcast relocation still P&W still

[00:16:09] counts yeah so I definitely wanted to hit a bunch of the places we talked about in episode three

[00:16:17] way back when I did the Pike Place haunting episode yes definitely it's so haunted it yes

[00:16:26] so on it it's haunted everywhere I didn't even talk about all of the hauntings that happened there

[00:16:31] like there might be a part two oh my gosh not today yeah I was like like right now not right now no

[00:16:39] sorry I know disappointments everywhere that's what I am um so definitely I went and got a coffee at

[00:16:51] Ghost Ali which was delicious and they have they saw gum there because it's right next to the gum

[00:16:59] wall they saw gum yeah obviously about gum and I went and suck it on the wall that's

[00:17:06] yeah that's where we got our gum it's so we went it's such a good idea like

[00:17:12] they're so smart because I was like I didn't bring it gum what they have gum I'm going to the

[00:17:18] gum wall what's the one thing I should bring I can't think of anything

[00:17:24] oh I got nothing you get that gum that was literally me yeah everybody apparently

[00:17:37] I bet they make so much money on gum probably more money on gum some days than coffee probably

[00:17:45] but we bought both too so I also stopped by market magic shop which what is Sheila's magic shop that

[00:17:54] we talked about in the episode I didn't know the name changed oh but it's called market

[00:17:59] magic shop and that was the place that had Madame Nora trapped in the crystal ball oh no I saw no

[00:18:08] crystal ball though oh maybe she's hiding in the back yeah they're worried someone's gonna steal her

[00:18:17] yeah try to set up worried about their yeah they're worried about their hostage being kidnapped

[00:18:25] I should have looked harder or you ask them and they're like oh yeah she's not

[00:18:33] here anymore yeah she's gone she's no longer with us we also went by Mary Tails which was closed

[00:18:42] too and that was sad like it said it was supposed to open at like 11 or something but it was closed

[00:18:49] I was like I hope it's not closed forever I really wanted to go in there and get something for my dog

[00:18:55] yeah and I think that was the one with the little kid ghost didn't I want to say

[00:19:01] yeah I think you're right I don't know why but that memory just like yeah it just synced up for me

[00:19:10] I think you're right and then we did go eat at Kels which was open thank goodness it was really

[00:19:16] cool I didn't I didn't feel anything creepy that was the one that was the mortuary the butter

[00:19:21] worth and suns mortuary yeah but it was kind of dark and spooky ambiance

[00:19:29] so yeah that's great I also tried to find Kiki Soblue's house where she passed away because it

[00:19:37] said in my original research her house was between Pike and Pine where the market is now

[00:19:45] but apparently they were looking at old photos and they figured out that it might not

[00:19:52] be where the house was because in the background it looked like maybe a beach or something

[00:20:00] in the background but it turns out that it wasn't they don't think I'll link the article it's

[00:20:05] a whole thing where this guy was like trying to find where her house was so I didn't get to do

[00:20:14] that maybe someday we'll go and like try to find the new spot where they think it might be that

[00:20:20] would be cool but it looks like it's a bit of a surge and I didn't like pin-boing it on the

[00:20:24] map or anything for you yeah like can you just tell me where it is that so I can go look at it

[00:20:33] I want to go to there yeah cuz like it's not like gonna be flooded with people right like how many

[00:20:40] people I mean maybe it would be I don't know we'll see yeah it's hard to say I mean when they

[00:20:50] first put out the information it might kind of get flooded at first but then I feel like after

[00:20:56] that it would settle down and wouldn't be that big of a deal yeah oh well I also want to go

[00:21:03] to her grave which is in Seattle I can't I can't remember the name of the cemetery but I want to

[00:21:12] go there that would be cool yeah so I have a crazy dream story to tell you guys I know nobody

[00:21:19] likes dream stories nobody cares about your dream but this one's cool I do I do too I always

[00:21:27] people that don't care about dream stories I know I always feel like I hear people say no one wants

[00:21:31] to hear about your dream like nobody cares but I care I think dreams are fucking cool as shit

[00:21:39] like what yeah your brain is so weird to me I think so too and also it's dick road don't be a dick

[00:21:48] cut if you don't want to listen turn off your ears okay I think about a few weeks before the trip I

[00:21:57] don't think it could have been more than a month because I remembered it so vividly so it's like

[00:22:02] a few weeks before we went to Seattle I had this random dream then I was going to the dentist which

[00:22:09] I do need to do it's fine my dream was trying to tell me something but I'm anxious for you now though

[00:22:19] why it's not I don't know it's not like bad it's weird we'll get there so I kind of felt like in the

[00:22:28] dream like it was old tiny I don't know why I got that feeling in the dream but I just in the dream

[00:22:35] it was olden times way back in the day way way back machine yeah like I don't know how you can get

[00:22:43] that feeling from a dream but you just do and I guess it was like the way everything looked too

[00:22:50] it just looked old so I was walking down all of these hallways trying to find my dentist office

[00:22:56] door because it was like a big building with a bunch of different offices in it and so I was looking

[00:23:04] I was looking for the dentist and it had like you know the doors were would framed and there was

[00:23:11] like glass in the middle of the door with the writing of the building on it what do you look what

[00:23:17] why do you look like that oh no sorry I was I do the dainty mouth covering when I I was on what is

[00:23:26] sorry I'm a freak I just bought my mouth too so that was a dream just me looking for my dentist

[00:23:34] in a hallway weird I was like okay one over so as we were going through the market I see this big

[00:23:42] tooth sign and it's like it says dentist office and it has like an arrow pointing to a door

[00:23:50] and it says sweet 309 and I was like huh for some reason it like triggered the memory of the dream

[00:23:59] and I was just like okay I'm going to humor myself and we're just going to go in and see what happens

[00:24:06] so I go in and it's all of these hallways with all of these doors and I was looking for the dentist

[00:24:14] office there was like oh my god I'm like literally living my dream right now it didn't look exactly the

[00:24:20] same but like really close to what you remember really close yeah I think in my dream like there

[00:24:26] was a green carpet and this was just wood floor so I'm like I don't know maybe they were up the green

[00:24:31] carpet was their green carpet there hmm maybe so I kept walking I found the dentist and it was

[00:24:39] a wood frame door with glass in the middle with the dentist office name right yeah is no weird and I

[00:24:48] I didn't take any photos I thought that I had but I think I was like so freaked out and like what

[00:24:54] is happening right now that I didn't take any pictures or maybe you did or maybe I did and they got

[00:25:01] a race from my phone yeah I took a picture because one of the doors was the Goodwin Library and I

[00:25:10] took a picture of that but yeah so next time I go back I'm gonna go exploring again and I'm

[00:25:18] gonna take a picture of the dentist office door I didn't even take a picture of the sign I thought

[00:25:23] that I thought I took a picture of like the tooth sign the heck yeah I found one online

[00:25:30] that's weird yeah I don't know I was like freaked out I can tell the future yeah but only

[00:25:40] dental stuff in the dental future maybe it was really telling me like you need to go into the

[00:25:48] dentist and get your cleaning bitch like come on maybe that's so weird we also went to a

[00:25:57] speak easy bar yeah it was really fun it was this old brick building and the entrance was an alleyway

[00:26:06] which apparently is called gin alley I love that bathtub gin and company yeah that makes sense

[00:26:14] because it that's you know ties into the days of prohibition yeah totally they used to make all

[00:26:22] of that stuff in bath tub so gross I mean I think probably clean bathtubs relative to the times but

[00:26:32] still I hope so I really hope so but you gotta do what you gotta do right yeah my tub is clean enough now

[00:26:41] that I could make gin in it I wouldn't try I'm not a gin drinker but

[00:26:49] I would make tequila my bathtub I would make vodka in my bathtub see I just don't know how you do

[00:26:57] that because don't you need a still like how do you do that in a bathtub I don't get it

[00:27:03] yeah I don't know maybe they just set the still in the bathtub and they like

[00:27:09] yeah maybe they did that because they were trying to like keep it undercover and you could just like

[00:27:15] pull the curtain and it looked like there's nothing in there well have to look up how they used to

[00:27:18] I don't know bathtub gin yeah yeah I know now I'm feeling like a dummy because I'm like maybe

[00:27:25] that has maybe there's some totally other explanation for that yeah I'm I don't know we'll look it up

[00:27:33] later so this speakeasy bar is located in Belltown which I guess is the area what the area is called

[00:27:44] in Seattle Belltown yeah interesting I don't think I've ever heard that like the pearl or something

[00:27:52] like this is like Belltown I don't know because the address is Seattle so it's like that's not

[00:27:58] the town but it's between first and second it's 50 feet north of Lanchard Street look for the wooden

[00:28:06] door is what it says on their website look for the wooden door yeah and they have a bouncer and

[00:28:16] you like go and he's either like right there at the door you knock on the door and he comes out

[00:28:21] and like tells you you have to wait in the alley for a seat because it's very small it's very limited

[00:28:26] yeah but it's so worth a wait so exclusive super exclusive and the drink I got was amazing I

[00:28:37] was called to the moon and it's rosé fortified wine rhubarb liquor sage honey yes

[00:28:45] seco habuscus flower oh my god that sounds amazing okay so you obviously have all of the ingredients

[00:28:54] listed can that be something that we we need to make those can we make those I guess that's

[00:29:01] how can we make those like you have to make your own rhubarb liquor right they don't just sell that

[00:29:08] oh you can totally oh I'm sure you can buy that somewhere but from a specialty shop or something

[00:29:14] interesting but yeah it was a really good drink it was a little sweet though

[00:29:18] well sweet but it's fine I have a really cool video of it because they put the habiscus flower

[00:29:24] down at the bottom and it like bubbles and it looks really cool it looks like a spiky see creature

[00:29:30] in the bottom of your drink that is so cool

[00:29:39] also I want to share one more super cool thing that happened yeah so we went up to the space

[00:29:45] needle we did the bar up there which I highly recommend it's really cool they make you like

[00:29:53] drink spire table they have really cool glasses do it it's really fun

[00:30:00] but I was having just one of those days you know where I just didn't feel good about myself

[00:30:06] just felt really crappy and I was like I'm so ugly today blah blah blah like I don't even

[00:30:12] feel like seeing people it was just one of those days you know we all have those days I think

[00:30:16] no unless you know I'm just yeah crazy but I mean you are but that's not why

[00:30:24] but as we were walking into the space needle this woman looks at me and she's like you are so pretty

[00:30:33] and I was just like what me like I almost burst in the tears seriously

[00:30:40] I was like oh my god thank you so much I just wanted to share that like share how thankful I was

[00:30:47] for that moment because you never know when someone needs like a compliment like that you could

[00:30:53] make their entire day just by saying how pretty they are yeah so I've been trying to like compliment

[00:31:00] people wherever I go like hey I love your dress or I love your shoes like your hair looks great

[00:31:08] I've been trying to do that to strangers and hopefully make someone feel as good as I felt that day

[00:31:14] so thanks girl I don't know who you are but if you're listening you told me I was pretty yeah

[00:31:20] I don't know how many people you tell her pretty at the space needle but

[00:31:27] she's like you could have been literally anyone yeah it's all that I just hang out by the space

[00:31:32] needle all that and just tell people how pretty they are they're so pretty yeah but it was sweet

[00:31:39] so yeah but I love that because I know that you are not somebody that will typically feel the

[00:31:49] most comfortable to just go up to a random stranger yeah and talk to them you know like

[00:31:55] I think probably for both of us but more so for you I sometimes just yeah

[00:32:02] you're just a little bit more introverted definitely and I feel like that's such a nice

[00:32:08] thing for anybody to do but it's it's really nice too just knowing that like that's not always

[00:32:13] the most comfortable thing but it's such a genuine effort to make the world a better place

[00:32:21] I just want everyone to love each other so since I talked about my Seattle trip I wanted

[00:32:30] to find like a fun haunted place in Seattle obviously and I found a little bar called Rebar

[00:32:40] it's re-b-b-a-r rebar kill yeah and it's located at 114 Howell Street in Seattle, Washington but before

[00:32:52] you get too excited it's closed what yeah they closed for COVID and they never were able to reopen

[00:33:02] no I know it's really sad and like after you hear the story of it you're gonna be even more sad

[00:33:13] yeah it sucks and I was like doing it like I want to talk about a place that's open so people get

[00:33:19] like you're excited to go but when I came across this I was like I'm gonna talk about it anyway

[00:33:25] because it's really cool yeah somebody will take over this space and it'll still be haunted yeah

[00:33:33] hopefully I mean hopefully they don't tear the building down but we'll see what happened

[00:33:40] so the building that stands there today was built in 1930 it's not a particularly interesting

[00:33:47] building for being that old it's described as being pretty plain it's a single story amongst all

[00:33:56] of these skyscrapers that are now in Seattle it's just like a lot of building and it's painted

[00:34:05] black and red it has a huge light up arrow pointing to the door and it has pride flags probably on

[00:34:13] display I love it yeah there's a reason for it too obviously so although the building itself

[00:34:22] might not be much to look at the history of the occupants is quite colorful before they built

[00:34:30] this building they believe the lot was some sort of boarding house or apartment they found records

[00:34:37] of several people listing it as their address in the 1914 one person was selling

[00:34:44] resurrection plants at this address do you know what those are oh no so I'll link a video

[00:34:54] so it's like this firm kind of looking plant and it like rolls up into a ball when it dries

[00:35:01] and then you can put water in it and it like opens back up and it just keeps doing that forever it

[00:35:07] dries up you put it on water and it opens back up yeah that is so cool aren't they cool so I had one

[00:35:19] my friend Brittany got me when I think in New Orleans and it had its little home outside

[00:35:27] I would go out and like give it water when it was shriveled and like just watch it blue I freaking

[00:35:33] love this thing and then I go out one day and it's not there anymore I know what I don't know

[00:35:40] what happened to it grew legs and it ran away from me or it was like taken up by a bird yeah

[00:35:48] sounds like maybe a bird is so weird nest or something I don't know

[00:35:54] yeah I don't know if that would be yeah but you don't like plant it or anything you just

[00:36:00] it's just it's kind of like an air plant you just yeah I was gonna say anything yeah

[00:36:06] but it's pretty funny I thought so I added that little tidbit in there just like for very

[00:36:11] selfish reasons because I wanted to tell you guys about resurrection plants

[00:36:19] that's so cool though yeah in 1910 a man named friend suade du vol sadly passed away in one of the

[00:36:27] rooms so there is a history of death on the property it's not in the building it was the building

[00:36:33] before but you know yeah but it's it's on the property yeah in the space yeah tied to that

[00:36:43] and then in 1920 it was a Pete's coffee shop really oh my gosh I love funny

[00:36:52] yeah like an unassuming lunch counter something in the article I didn't write it down but

[00:36:58] cute yeah it was like it turned into like this big coffee place and yeah yeah in the 20s that's crazy

[00:37:09] yeah Pete's been around for quite a while I guess apparently yeah so then they built this new building

[00:37:17] in 1930 and before it was rebar several different gay bars occupied the building yay the first being

[00:37:26] night talk tavern get out of you can call me night talk yes I gladly that is so funny

[00:37:38] you have to call me dragon exactly I'll be at nighthawk and you can be dragon because you're fiery

[00:37:45] I mean you know it's a shoe fits in the mid 70s it became thirsties which is a pretty good bar name

[00:37:57] that is amazing it's not pretty good I so I've been hearing a lot about like thirst traps or whatever

[00:38:05] the fuck people post and I was like that would be a great bar name the third trap I bet it's already

[00:38:12] a thing do you think maybe I don't know but you know what I think there's enough room for multiple

[00:38:20] thirst traps I say that we use I think we need to start a bar Kessie I think so to start a bar

[00:38:30] we have a lot of ideas of things we should start yeah let's do it yeah okay so we shut up anyway

[00:38:39] by the 80s it was called Axel rock very 80s wow yeah that's something super 80s it was owned

[00:38:51] by two men Alex aka Axel and brick aka rocky so I know I love that they named it like after their

[00:39:01] nicknames too so cute but Axel devastatingly passed away shortly after being diagnosed with AIDS

[00:39:10] and the bar had to close yeah it's so sad it was back in that time you know people were getting

[00:39:17] hit really hard with the AIDS epidemic and yeah unfortunately the bar got hit too so next

[00:39:28] came sparks tavern known as just S by the regulars that's cute too like these are so short yeah yeah

[00:39:38] let's go to S that's cool yeah I like it all of these bars had cabaretocks and dancing but with S

[00:39:48] they evolved into hosting many different styles of entertainment including full-ass plays on their

[00:39:55] teeny tiny screens that they had that's amazing yeah so cool and then I said it again so cool

[00:40:06] yeah great energy in that space then when rebar took over in 1990 they kept kind of the same vibe as

[00:40:15] all the past bars but they emptied up even more and it became way more than just a gay bar

[00:40:22] this is a quote from the Seattle curved article that I will link for you guys rebar became

[00:40:29] quote a home for freaks geeks drag queens bikers punks beelisters wallflowers wasteoids goth

[00:40:37] goth goth goth goth goth and i can't say goth and i know it is a hard one that is hard one more time

[00:40:48] goth's grungers drominer and everybody else we would have hung out there right totally

[00:40:57] I still want to hang out there i know i want to go so bad can we open up another rebar

[00:41:05] yeah but we do have to call it thirst trap

[00:41:08] yeah it's true yeah maybe we should go buy this by me and pop for sale yeah it's like a half million

[00:41:17] dollars that's fine yeah i feel like that's super affordable for downtown Seattle i might be more

[00:41:23] i think it's more than that yeah i'm sure it is anyway so it really just became a place that was

[00:41:31] like a safe space for anyone who felt kind of like an outsider i love that there was one last

[00:41:38] huge piece of history that seriously breaks my heart even more that this place is closed rebar

[00:41:46] was the site of nirvana's release party for nevermind shut up okay i was like gosh this really

[00:41:56] sounds familiar why am i not placing this all right well that's probably why yeah now everyone knows

[00:42:04] i'm a dumb i didn't know but they apparently got kicked out of their own party for being too ram

[00:42:10] bunches i love that yeah see that's why the name sounded familiar because i remember that piece

[00:42:18] of the story and i remember reading about this like wow that's it's pretty rock and roll got kicked

[00:42:25] out of your own party yeah so funny so there are two ghosts known to linger around the building a

[00:42:35] sound performed by a medium revealed that one is apparently a woman who owned nighthawk i couldn't

[00:42:43] find any info about who owned nighthawk oh wow and i thought it was like a little weird that it

[00:42:51] might have been a woman like back in the thirties owning a bar but maybe she owned it with her husband

[00:42:56] or yeah i'm not sure how common that would have been yeah i that would strike me as odd do because it

[00:43:04] just wasn't that common for women to have owned their own property and businesses at you know

[00:43:10] that point in history yeah so i don't know that's what the thing is mediums that yeah did she say

[00:43:19] the other one was Kurt no damn it unfortunately nobody the other one is pretty funny but we'll get

[00:43:30] so this woman supposedly passed away in the building and people see her crying at the bar

[00:43:41] someone get this woman a drink she needs a drink she needs an ice cream she needs a tissue like

[00:43:49] help her out yeah the other ghost is a

[00:43:56] so is a leather daddy yes oh my god yes i just picture him like i run just like whipping people

[00:44:15] oh i love this for the space and i love kassy that you found a way to work the phrase

[00:44:28] leather daddy yeah into our show i mean i mean it's some of the magic they did

[00:44:33] I will know i know they called him a leather daddy so yeah no but you found a way to tie that

[00:44:40] story in you brought that to us i did you're welcome you're welcome for this amazing information

[00:44:47] i'm sharing with you i love it but i guess he likes to fuck around with like the stage tech

[00:44:56] like the lighting and the sound and all of the equipment and stuff he likes to mess around with

[00:45:01] that so i don't know if maybe he's trying to like get his own vibe going like the light yeah he wants

[00:45:08] you know probably red or yeah that put his own music on you know whatever he's into that is a mood

[00:45:18] totally

[00:45:25] they also have a slight problem with a certain stench

[00:45:30] that randomly comes from the stage area uh they can never find the source guys like

[00:45:38] that we need to find the source i know like just tear it just tear down the stage and just dig

[00:45:44] dig until you find it yeah i mean i guess it's not it's not like at all the time stench

[00:45:51] it's only every once in a while like they'll get a whiff of it on the stage so i don't think it's

[00:45:58] like something died in there because you would you would continuously smell that

[00:46:04] yeah i would think so you know what it is leather daddy is just periodically crop

[00:46:11] testing the stage he could be i sold it i sold it you guys you want to know something funny

[00:46:19] yeah the next thing i wrote is so they blamed it on the ghost i feel like that's the same as

[00:46:25] blaming your fart on a dog oh my god

[00:46:31] like someone's just farting i think wow or it's a ghost i ain't never know

[00:46:43] but i wonder i also wonder too if it like could be a demon because those have a smell

[00:46:49] associated you yeah and not a good one you would describe it as a stench

[00:46:54] yeah and i don't i didn't see any reports of any negative activity or feeling there

[00:47:01] is mostly positive vibes and stuff so who knows uh whistling is heard when employees are

[00:47:10] alone in the building at night okay so i'm not a fan of whistling on the whole i just find that

[00:47:18] like kind of it's it just kind of pierces my ear in a way that i don't i don't care for it

[00:47:25] i'll be honest by not a fan either and an employee had an apparition walk through him

[00:47:32] like a literal apparition walked through him and he said it felt like a rush of air sir

[00:47:39] if you could please not pass through me i don't know who's doing the whistling either like

[00:47:47] is it like a song or is it like whistling like hey come here or like hey how you done or like

[00:47:54] it's the part in kill bill where there's that like whistling sound in the song

[00:48:00] maybe that's the demon

[00:48:02] i think so the apparition this man saw he didn't specify if it was a man or a woman

[00:48:13] so i don't know if it was just kind of like a figure and he couldn't tell or what

[00:48:19] so i don't know if it was the one i assume it's a man because that just feels like dude behavior

[00:48:28] yeah i don't feel like walking through you sir yeah i don't know

[00:48:34] another employee had the apparition of a woman up here right in front of her face laughing at her

[00:48:42] and then she just disappeared rude yeah i think in the article they were saying uh she felt like

[00:48:51] she was being laughed at for being like startled yeah oh my god hi you're such a nitty and i scared you

[00:49:00] yeah bye and then she like disappears wow but that is all i have on rebar which i'm just so i'm still

[00:49:16] so sad that these small businesses just couldn't come back from covid it just sucks

[00:49:27] it's a bummer i think there's a lot that you know they kind of clawed their way back but

[00:49:34] it's not all of them when we lost some good ones for sure we did yeah what are you looking at

[00:49:41] um i don't know i was hearing something for a second and i wasn't sure if that was like neighbors

[00:49:50] we don't have neighbors upstairs so it's been so creepy because i think that we told you like

[00:49:57] we've been hearing someone upstairs like you know that guy you know just moved out a few weeks go

[00:50:04] well we've still been hearing something upstairs oh huh like someone was there and we're like

[00:50:11] no one should be there and it odd hours so it's not just like a cleaner because it's like

[00:50:17] 7 p.m um chris said he woke up um a couple of different times like think once it like 1 a.m. and

[00:50:26] once at like 3 a.m. and he's hearing stuff someone's up there um chris just found out that

[00:50:33] apartment has probably been unlocked like 24-7 since those people moved out so we were like okay

[00:50:44] either they either the ghost just like piece the fuck out to upstairs or we or there's been

[00:50:51] possibly like a squatter or something yeah i don't know it's freaky either way i don't like it

[00:50:58] oh that's not good no okay we're starting our tarot read for some insight into rebar

[00:51:08] okay think i'm ready to pull a card here let's see i'm just gonna cut it like i used to

[00:51:15] we have the five of needles in reverse so the five of swords and this is my nightmare before

[00:51:28] chris mstacks so the suits are a little different yeah okay i've got the journal at the

[00:51:35] ready it doesn't look very um great i you know it doesn't that's really scary looking actually

[00:51:45] it's ugi boogie and jack ah jack fighting ugi boogie so in the little book that came with the

[00:51:52] nightmare before chris mstack it says reversed five of needles represents the period after a battle

[00:52:00] when it's time to shake hands and move on you've had a moment to settle your bets and cool off

[00:52:08] let bygones beat bygones and move on with your head held high okay i'm not telling one of the

[00:52:18] ghosts to move on i don't know i'm like baby it's talking about rebar like they had a battle with

[00:52:24] covid and they all kind of lost no it's time to move on that's kind of sad i don't like it

[00:52:36] i don't like it at all yeah oh should i pull out the interpretation from the big book

[00:52:44] yeah all right so our key words are change adjustment loss destruction conflict in decision sadness

[00:52:58] so i mean not not great um in the modern witch tarot um the picture obviously is going to look

[00:53:08] a little bit different the number five signifies change and this card shows a time of adjustment

[00:53:16] after a conflict of some kind so definitely it's funny because we've done this before where we've

[00:53:22] really seen such a strong match with the interpretation that we're like yep we got the suits right

[00:53:28] you know um sometimes the fight stems from ideological or spiritual differences

[00:53:38] hmm the writer wait smith aquarium and some other decks show a soldier on the battlefield at the

[00:53:45] end of a fight the card asks what have you won or lost oh yeah it just makes me sad i know

[00:53:58] hmm it says reversed the five suggests pretty much the same thing as it does upright

[00:54:07] okay so it's the overarching symbol is kind of devastation destruction after a loss

[00:54:14] so means pretty much the same as that apparently okay when the card appears reversed in a reading

[00:54:22] however you may feel a great sense of remorse regret or unhappiness sometimes it shows you making

[00:54:31] repairs or reparations after a conflict trying to set things right and learning from your suffering

[00:54:40] in a reading about money the reversed five can indicate losses after a fight perhaps a legal

[00:54:47] matter or squabble over an inheritance huh in the end no one really wins and you may experience regret

[00:54:57] indecision or unwillingness to make necessary changes could be costly too hmm if the reading is about

[00:55:05] your job struggles with bosses or co-workers may cause hard feelings or impede your progress a conflict

[00:55:14] may damage your chances for advancement perhaps causing you to change jobs under unfavorable circumstances

[00:55:24] oh true in a reading about love this card can indicate mourning the loss

[00:55:35] of a relationship or regretting a decision made in the heat of an argument perhaps you feel betrayed

[00:55:42] in some cases however it can suggest trying to repair the damage and make constructive changes

[00:55:50] perhaps with the help of therapy no go to therapy it just makes me so mad too because these people

[00:55:58] these businesses were supposed to get help for COVID and so that they wouldn't have to lose their

[00:56:05] jobs and a lot of them just didn't get the help that they needed and I'm sure they were fighting for it

[00:56:13] yeah I think that a lot of we see it in almost everything right where the bureaucratic process

[00:56:22] um unfortunately what people are supposed to get in the way of assistance you know it's harder

[00:56:29] to access then yeah it should be and then it's supposed to be I feel like it almost makes me wonder

[00:56:38] too because of the type of bar it was if they were like trying to purposefully kind of push them out

[00:56:47] of the neighborhood I mean could be I think all of the at least from what I know and I certainly

[00:56:56] didn't go through the whole like screening process or anything but with like the PPP loans

[00:57:03] I feel as if that was money that was basically federally mandated that came from the federal government

[00:57:15] and then it was sort of directed by states so whether or not

[00:57:20] that you know that's a possibility I think yeah who knows it's so hard to say because you can tell

[00:57:28] the area it's in just by the picture on Google Maps with all of the brand new big sky scraper buildings

[00:57:38] that maybe they just don't want this you know bar with all these crazy people yeah with all the

[00:57:49] big list of types of people that I read out yeah you guys are too loud you're too weird

[00:57:57] you're too goth yeah goth so I don't know it makes me scared for the building too like what it's gonna

[00:58:07] what's gonna happen to it there's so much history there yeah bummer I know I hate to see those old

[00:58:16] buildings go away you know it's one thing if over time that has to happen just for you know

[00:58:24] this the safety aspect you know because it's no longer structurally sound and we're kind of

[00:58:29] putting band-aids on a broken leg and but just to have it go away because unfortunately it's a

[00:58:36] kind of a casualty of COVID is I mean that should be yeah boo zero time I think that's it yeah

[00:58:51] time to let go and move on I guess I guess sorry people were so sad I know it really it really is

[00:59:04] sad really is sad but we'll have to go up to Seattle and frequent some of the other places that we found

[00:59:11] and liked and that have kind of made it through some of those darker times for you know businesses

[00:59:19] and just support the crap out of them I know I want to go and like take a picture at least of

[00:59:26] the building if if it still got the sign and everything I really don't know if they torn anything down

[00:59:32] yet but I kind of want to go up there and see if I can get a photo of it before it's gone yeah

[00:59:41] it's a long drive though it is yeah just for a single photo but you know what we could plan a trip

[00:59:48] um and maybe if it lasts until October yeah if nothing else we'll be kind of up in that direction

[00:59:56] yeah or if anyone listening lives in Seattle and wants to go take a photo and send it to us that'd be cool

[01:00:04] that is a great idea hello yeah Seattle are you listening wait we know there's a few of you there's a couple
