Host Update Of Why The 80s Movie Podcast Was Paused 8 Months (Apology & Thanks)

Edward Havens, host of The 80s Movie Podcast, issues a brief apology and explains why the show paused for the past eight months. This 2m52s host update thanks listeners and provides a candid explanation of the hiatus. Thank you for sticking with the neon-lit rewind. Your support matters.

[00:00:08] From Los Angeles, California, the entertainment capital of the world, it's The 80s Movie Podcast. I'm your host, Edward Havens. Thank you for listening today. This is going to be a very short episode, but before we get started, I wanted to give a shout out and say hello to an incredible younger listener of the show who I got to meet during my 40th high school reunion last August.

[00:00:29] Ellie, I very much enjoyed talking to you and I adore your passion for the things that you love. You are amazing and I know that you're going to do amazing things with your life. Tell your mom and dad hello for me. I look forward to introducing you to my daughter someday in the future and thank you for listening. This episode is going to be a full on apology for missing the last several months and a status update about the future of this podcast.

[00:00:52] As many of you know, my wife gave birth to our first child in February of 2024 and I have been enjoying every moment of being a father. I spend most every evening after she goes to bed catching up on the things I would normally do during the day, you know, laundry, dishes, cleaning, things like that, because I want to spend every waking moment of her day with her.

[00:01:15] But what no one outside my family knows is that shortly after I published that previous episode in August of 2025, we lost the baby my wife was expecting, a boy. We hadn't given him a name yet because it was in that first trimester window where you don't tell anyone anything in case something might happen, and for us, it happened. It would have destroyed me if it not for my daughter. So the podcast has been taking a backseat to real life, and that should be changing in the future.

[00:01:43] My daughter will be starting preschool in the fall, which will free up several hours of time each weekday for me to get the things done during the day, so that I can dedicate some evenings to the research, writing, recording, publishing, and promotion of this podcast. And I still have a lot planned for this podcast. I have notes for dozens of films, spreadsheets with release dates for hundreds of movies from dozens of distributors, and one very special episode I've hinted about in the past that has been written for two years now,

[00:02:12] but I haven't been able to get the courage up to record it yet. If you're hearing this, thank you for sticking around during the silence, and I hope you'll continue sticking around. Thank you for joining us. We'll talk again, hopefully, very soon. Remember to visit our website, the80smoviepodcast.com, to discover previous episodes. The 80s Movie Podcast has been researched, written, narrated, and edited by Edward Havens for idiosyncratic entertainment. Thank you again. Good night.
